Response to terrorist attacks

Last week, Islamic extremists killed 11 workers of the satiricle comic Charlie Hebdo and a police officer in response to a suggestive cartoon considering their 'prophet' muhhamed. Ever since this event, the question of the day has been wether or not certain newspapers will continue printing the comic. It seems that most are on board for continuing the printing of the comic however, certain newspaper's (The New York Times) are not printing the comic because it would be "offensive" to the Muslim religion. But when has that stopped America before? Offending people is what we seem to like best. All I can express is deep dissapointment to the N.Y.T. For not having the courage to stand up for what this nation was founded upon, freedom. What interests me the most however is when we as Americans criticize the French so readily for turning their back when conflicts come and running. However, France is taking Americas place it seems, and America is dazed and doesn't know what to do. We are the leaders of the free world. It should be pretty obvious what we do when oppression comes, destroy it. The
best thing I've heard considering this whole affair is a quote from New York advacy group Joel Simon who states “Here’s the thing that troubles me: This is a time when, regardless of your decision to publish or not, we need to stand together behind the principle of freedom of expression. I’d hate to see this become divisive.” We can not let this event disunite us as a nation or as a world, we must destroy the enemies of freedom just as fast as they can kill 12 people. The thing is, we can not be discouraged by this we must press onward and fight these offenders of freedom. At what cost? That depends on what you stand for, however if the cost becomes too great and freedom seems at its end, what's next?
